It’s the little things that are the most jarring. Walking into my hotel there were no doors – not even a doorway! The weather is so consistent here that, presumably, there is little need for doors (save for locking up at the end of the business day).
In the evening I walked a ways down Ala Moana Boulevard to the Ala Moana Center (a mall). I was prepared for the missing doors, but was surprised by the missing ceilings. The stores were aligned on two floors, as you would expect in any Edmonton mall; but looking up I almost mistook the black night sky for a black ceiling. I realized then that even the threat of rain was not much of a threat at all.
